Interior designer Laura Ratia got a nice challenge on her desk. The home of the Helsinki family was going for plumbing repairs and they wanted to renovate all the surfaces. From the inspirational images, wishes and thoughts collected by the customer, the designer leveled the whole, which the residents fell in love with.
- In the design, I started with the atmosphere that we want to create in the space. The adult bathroom was desired to be timeless, luxurious, elegant and homely. The idea was ‘Artek with a Twist’, Ratia says.
Ideas for a marine themed children's bathroom
They wanted to bring color to the children's bathroom. Its atmosphere became maritime, soft and playful - the way the turquoise sea is on a cloudy day. Ratia draws her inspiration and atmosphere from everywhere in everyday life and life - for example, from a spring bike ride to the seaside, or from the appropriate color harmony of clothes.
The right products for the surfaces of the Helsinki Family Bathrooms could be found at ABL-Tiles. The showroom in Helsinki's Siltamäki and the store's tile library have been created as design tools. Here Ratia sat down together with Maria Silvast and went through the reference pictures. Interesting combinations of different sizes, colors and shapes were found on the dozens of shelf meters in the tile library, the model pieces of which ended up on the design table.
– We went through the choices together with the client, I created different worlds for both bathrooms. A lovely Jasba Loop penny mosaic was chosen for the adult bathroom floor from three options, which happened to be my favorite as well.
– Gradient Crayon tiles were chosen for the children's bathroom. These were paired with a standard 10x10 white matt tile for the walls and floor.
Ratia says that the tiles were designed and executed with great precision, and the end result is worth it. Upon completion, both bathrooms, including the entire beautiful apartment, delighted the residents. Bold and fresh choices make the apartment a home.
