HUS Tammisairaala Façade Art, Helsinki

Stunning and unique mosaic artworks have been created on the ends of the three different buildings of HUS Tammisairaala, using ABL-Laatat’s ceramic Kerapanel® façade planks. The mosaics are made with 29 different colors and façade planks measuring 30x30 cm and 30x90 cm.

HUS Tammisairaala focuses on specialized ophthalmology care. Already during the building permit phase, the City of Helsinki required artistic elements to be included in the hospital’s façade. The art program was designed with consideration for patients with visual impairments, and its themes are the city, the sea, and nature. The façade art competition was won by Tuula Lehtinen, whose red, blue, and green-toned mosaic artworks help patients orient themselves through the building’s calming colors.
