Villa, Askainen

Built into the seascapes of Askainen, the natural materials of this villa will only improve and beautify over time.

The villa, built in Aska, has charmed its owners so that they now spend most of their time in the seascapes. The architect Rami Eräpohja, who designed the second home for the Turku couple, got a free hand in drawing, albeit within the framework of Natura, which borders the plot and the manor environment.

– Projects of this scale rarely happen in an architect's career. Full freedom expands choice, and on the other hand, experience brings knowledge. When you get your hands free, then you also want to design as good as just the part. The owners were also happy to be involved in the design process and several versions were created on the drawing board, Eräpohja says about the project.

Natural materials

Along the concrete wall of the northeastern edge of the house climbs vines that blend into the greenery of the whole house. The end result of the design of the wilderness base was a wool that blends beautifully into the landscape, close to nature and based on natural materials.

– The specialty of the villa is related to surface materials. Not a drop of paint has been used on the surfaces, and not a single plasterboard - only stone, ceramics and wood, Eräpohja says.

Numerous individual solutions were made to the site. One of Eräpohja's own favorites and most successful material solutions is the traditional Cotto Manetti Terracotta Tiles, which have been chosen as the floor material for the wine cellar. The tile has been made in Italy for hundreds of years, and the craftsmanship is visible and felt. The tile has a story and an atmosphere.

– The step feel of the tiles is good and the fly is perfect. It leaves the impression that the floor feels almost soft. Only natural materials were chosen for all surfaces of the house, which patinated beautifully over time and only heal as they age. In thirty years the house will be at its best.

According to interior designer Jenni Haaslahti, the important role of materials is to create a cozy atmosphere that is suitable for both architecture and the environment.

– The quality, timelessness and feel of the surface materials were important criteria. The material of oak and black is a timeless combination. Because we wanted to keep the range of materials and colors subdued and the spaces atmospheric, we ended up making the bathrooms and toilets almost black in their main colors - only the furniture is oak. The same theme continues in the kitchen, where a pair of oak furniture is a black level, a basin and a faucet, Haaslahti says.

– The tiles in the toilets and bathrooms are almost matt in surface to keep the overall look calm. The feel, look and authenticity of the material were the criteria for choosing the black tiles. So all the materials in the house have the same guiding principle: authenticity, quality and feel. If the material looks good and attracts to touch, the combination is perfect, Haaslahti concludes.

Rami Eräpohja, the leading architect of Meyer Turku Oy, also praises the pleasant sound world: the suspended ceilings of the villa are wooden grilles, behind which are hidden Acoustic panels. The house also specializes in its own elevator, which transports residents to the sauna. It's easy to enjoy yourself here.
